Best beach detector?

I am looking to get into metal detecting. I have read some books and websites. I am still uncertain about the featuers I should get based on what I plan on metal detecting for.

Mainly I intend to detect on ocean beaches for rings and coins (anything else that can be found on a beach).
I would also like to do some detecting on land.

I am looking for a detector with the following characteristics:
Waterproof (completely submersible)
Able to detect a few feet below the surface
Ability to handle multiple frequencies

I have searched the sites for Garrett and other reputable companies but I just can’t find anything that has these exact characteristics unless I overlooked something.
With all of this in mind, what detectors would you recommend?

Read up. No detector detects feet below the surface. You don't want to dig feet below the surface. In or near the water you can't dig feet below the surface.

Look at the Minelab Equinox.

I'd go with a equinox 800 all I use and it finds the goods rings silver and gold!

I think he meant "a few feet" below the waters surface, Goodmore.

for the beach I prefer the Excal II with the 10in coil....for land only like parks & tot lots I like the beep & dig detectors just a few knobs Sens & disc...no screens or programs to deal with that takes time to set up & when the detector beeps the first thing you want to do is look at the screen & waste time trying to figure out what the target is.....so just beep & dig...more targets dug = more coins & jewelry found....hope this helps..I've been detecting for 40 yrs now.....HH...Tab.

With the ML Nox...... you have the best of both worlds...... dirt and water hunting. Definitely more bang for the buck. It will do anything a $2400 machine will do..... at what $700 maybe. You have peace of mind with a 3 year warranty as well...... something the Xcal dont have. You have a TDI screen, its multi freq AND single freq, its waterproof, its light weight, nice size standard coil 11", its FAST..... i mean FAST so you can hunt in those nail beds. BETTER depth and sensitivity on small gold in the wet sand than the Xcal..... which only has 1 year warranty and is almost twice the price. Unless you mod the Xcal...... its all hard wired with those not the best headphones. I like simple too...... but i also like the ability to look at that screen around old home site or in someones yard. I have moded Xcals and a lot of hours on them......in PP mode the Xcal is 100% quieter to work with in the water if you are trying to run the Nox HOT. Just ask some dealer..... no matter the brand how the Nox pretty well slowed their sales. Even used machines have taken a hit in price. As far as in salt water...... everything becomes equal there i dont care what the price of the detector is. Ive used most popular water machines..... very little difference in depth for the contenders. Those who say there is are going by guess work. No machine does it all..... they all have short comings... but the Nox seem to be the most popular right now for silver and gold.....what else is there?
